Achieving millimeter wave mobility was once regarded as an impossible technical challenge by the industry, and Qualcomm proved that millimeter wave can be used in smartphones. The first smartphone-based 5G mmWave interoperability test in China completed by Qualcomm and ZTE this time marks an important milestone in mmWave technology verification and paves the way for further discussions on China’s mmWave commercial deployment strategy.

Qualcomm accounts for most of the world’s 5G cores

Many people have questioned that Qualcomm’s chips have not yet integrated 5G baseband flagship chips, but now such doubts It has dissipated, because Qualcomm has quietly released a new 5G baseband some time ago, which supports both NSA/SA network modes.

Previously, except for Huawei, other brands of 5G mobile phones used the X50 plug-in regulator, which only supported the NSA mode network, which was criticized as “fake 5G” by everyone. But the technology will always be upgraded. According to Qualcomm’s official introduction, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G baseband will be officially commercialized in 2020. The biggest feature is to support NSA/SA dual-mode.

The Snapdragon X55 baseband is still plug-in and is not integrated into the chip, but it is also built using an advanced 7nm process. It can fully support 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, with a maximum download rate of 7Gbps, and the efficiency is effectively improved. It is worth mentioning that Qualcomm’s 5G baseband has been reserved for adoption by more than 30 OEM manufacturers around the world, and domestic brands account for more than half.

In addition to domestic mobile phones, Apple may also be equipped with Qualcomm’s baseband next year. According to a new report, next year’s iPhone will have the most advanced 5G chip on the market. ZTE’s low-key return

On October 28, 2019, ZTE officially released the 2019 third quarter and 2019 annual performance reports. In terms of 5G patents, in June 2019, the German patent data company Iplytics released a statistical report on the number of 5G SEP patents. The report shows that in the SEP patent ranking, ZTE ranks third with 1,424 SEP patents, that is to say, in the global 5G essential patents, ZTE has quietly surpassed Qualcomm and Samsung, and is very close to the level of the second Nokia.

As of the end of September 2019, ZTE has fully participated in the large-scale deployment of 5G networks in China, won 35 5G commercial contracts around the world, and carried out in-depth 5G cooperation with more than 60 operators around the world.

5G bearer end-to-end products have been deployed on a large scale, with a cumulative shipment of 20,000 units, and more than 30 5G bearer network commercial deployments and live network pilots have been completed with global operators. The first batch of 5G commercial cities
